Designing QuickPay for Senior Nursing Facility Payments

QuickPay was designed to simplify payments for families and caregivers of residents in senior nursing facilities. The existing process was often stressful, time-consuming, and lacked transparency, especially for high-value transactions. Our goal was to create a secure, intuitive, and fast payment experience that could be completed in under 3-5 minutes while maintaining trust and compliance.

Through research, we identified key pain points: users needed clarity on statement details, flexibility in payment methods, and reassurance during time-sensitive transactions. After multiple wireframes and prototypes, I designed a single-page interface that keeps resident information visible at all times, displays the current statement prominently, and offers clear options to pay the full or partial amount. A breakdown of the statement amount, convenience fee, and total ensures transparency, while button group for bank and card payments provide flexibility.

Security and feedback were critical design considerations. A session timer banner reinforces urgency without overwhelming the user, and mandatory acknowledgment of privacy policies ensures compliance. Real-time feedback states such as success, failure, and timeout alerts reduce anxiety and guide users through next steps. Color coding (green for success, red for failure, orange for warnings) and large, readable fonts improve accessibility for older users and caregivers.

The result was a streamlined payment flow that reduced completion time by 40% and improved user confidence through clear communication and transparency. Future enhancements include auto-save for partial progress, multi-language support, and biometric authentication for added security. QuickPay demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform a stressful process into a simple, trustworthy experience.
